Valve supply

Valves and Valve Spares

Valves control, isolate or protect pipework, and their sealing parts, namely stem packing, seats, body gaskets and O-rings, wear first. Globseals can help you identify valves and valve spares and quote replacements, including repair kits and seals. For most enquiries a photo, the body markings and the line details are enough to start.

  • Gate, globe, ball, butterfly
  • Seat, stem and body seals
  • Repair kits and spares
  • Body-marking identification
Valves and Valve Spares

Overview

A valve has three sealing zones. The seat seals the closure element against flow, the stem seal keeps the medium inside the valve around the moving stem, and the body or bonnet joint seals the valve shell. Most leakage problems are traced to one of these, and each uses a different sealing product: elastomer or PTFE seats, packing or O-ring stem seals, and gaskets at the bonnet.

Most valve spares are sold as complete repair kits for a particular model, or as individual packing sets, seats and gaskets cut to size.

Valve types and typical spares

  • Gate valves: stem packing, bonnet gaskets, wedge, seats.
  • Globe valves: stem packing, discs, seat rings, bonnet gaskets.
  • Ball valves: PTFE seats, stem seals, body seals, balls and stems.
  • Butterfly valves: resilient liners/seats, stem seals, discs, actuators.
  • Check valves: seats, springs, discs, flapper rubbers and gaskets.
  • Needle, plug and diaphragm valves: needles, diaphragms, packings and seats.
  • Actuators and handwheels: pneumatic and electric actuators, gearboxes, positioners on enquiry.

See graphite packing and compression packing for stem-packing options.

Materials

PartCommon materialsNotes
BodyCast iron, ductile iron, bronze, brass, carbon steel, stainless steel, plasticsMatch to medium and rating.
SeatsPTFE, filled PTFE, EPDM, NBR, FKM, metalSoft seats seal better but have lower temperature limits.
Stem packingPTFE, graphite, aramidGraphite for heat; PTFE for chemicals.
TrimStainless steel, hardened alloysAbrasive duty wears trim quickly.

Values here are typical only; always confirm against the manufacturer's data for your application. Oxygen, hydrogen, potable-water and food-contact valves require technical review and the correct certification documents.

How to identify a valve

  1. Read the body markings: manufacturer, size (DN or inches), pressure rating (PN or class), body material, and any model number.
  2. Note the end connections: flanged, screwed, wafer, lugged or butt-weld, plus the flange standard.
  3. Photograph the valve complete, the stem area and the tag.
  4. State the medium, temperature and pressure.
  5. Describe the fault: external leak, passing seat, seized stem.

A damaged or hot-worked valve may be worth replacing outright; discuss with us.

Information to send with your enquiry

The more of the following you can supply, the faster the part can be identified and quoted.

  • Make, model and tag number
  • Size and pressure rating
  • End connections and flange standard
  • Body and trim material
  • Medium, temperature and pressure
  • Parts needed: kit, packing, seat, gasket or complete valve
  • Photos of the valve and markings

Genuine and compatible replacements

Customers can enquire about genuine or compatible replacement parts for equipment from manufacturers such as Burgmann, John Crane, Chesterton, Grundfos, KSB, Flygt, Lowara, Goulds, Sulzer, Flowserve, Klinger, Flexitallic, Trelleborg and others. A genuine part is supplied by or made to the original equipment manufacturer's specification and part number. A compatible part is made to fit the same dimensions and duty, usually by another manufacturer, and may differ in material or finish. Compatible valve spares are made to fit common valve models, though seat hardness and stem tolerances may differ. For safety-critical valves the original manufacturer's specification should be followed. State clearly in your enquiry which you want, and say whether a part number or sample is available.

How to buy

Globseals supports three ways to buy, and the right one depends on how well the part is defined.

  • Buy online where a product listing shows a confirmed price. Products are being added to the shop progressively, so not every item in this category is listed yet.
  • Request a quote for custom, bulk or unpriced items. Seals, kits and complete valves are quoted. Use the quote request page.
  • Technical review when identification is unresolved. Examples include unmarked valves, high-pressure steam, hazardous media and actuated valves. Start with Find My Seal or upload a drawing.

You can also phone 011 079 6033 or WhatsApp 079 508 0989, or email info@globseals.com. See delivery and collection for how orders are handled; courier costs are quoted per order.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a spare for an old valve?

Send photos of the body markings and the valve overall. Dimensions of the seat and stem can help if markings are gone.

Why does my valve leak around the stem?

Worn packing or a damaged stem is the usual cause. Adjust or replace the packing and check the stem surface.

Can I use PTFE packing on a steam valve?

Not usually, because of temperature limits. Graphite packing is more common for steam; confirm with the manufacturer's data.

Do you supply actuators?

On enquiry. Give the valve type, torque requirement, supply and control signal.

Can you supply valves for potable water?

This requires technical review and the correct certification documents.
