Made to drawing

Special and Engineered Components

Not every part appears in a catalogue. Older machines, imported equipment and modified plant often need seals, bushes, rings or housings that are no longer available. Globseals can review your drawing or sample and help source or make a replacement. This page explains how special requests are handled and what we need from you.

Special and Engineered Components

Overview

Engineered components are parts built to a particular dimension, material and tolerance rather than to a common standard. They include non-standard seals and gaskets, machined polymer bushes and wear parts, rubber-metal assemblies, sleeves and custom housings. Success depends on a clear specification: the functional requirement, the dimensions that matter, and the operating conditions.

Capability, tooling and lead time depend on the part and are confirmed when you enquire.

What we can look at

  • Non-standard seals: special profiles, sizes and materials in PTFE, polyurethane, elastomers and filled polymers.
  • Machined polymer parts: bushes, wear strips, rings, seats and spacers in nylon, acetal, UHMW-PE, PEEK and PTFE.
  • Custom gaskets: shaped from sheet, see cut and custom gaskets.
  • Metal components: sleeves, spacers, glands, flanges and housings via metal machining.
  • Rubber-metal bonded parts: see bonded seals.
  • Obsolete part reproduction: reverse engineering from samples.
  • Kits and assemblies: grouped parts for a specific machine.

Materials

MaterialTypical useNotes
PTFE and filled PTFEChemical and low frictionCreeps under load.
PolyurethaneHydraulic seals and wear partsHydrolysis in hot water for some grades.
Nylon, acetalBushes, gears and wear partsAbsorb moisture (nylon) and have temperature limits.
UHMW-PEWear strips, linersLow friction, low temperature limit.
PEEKHigh temperature and chemicalCostly; suitable for demanding duty.
Stainless and alloy steelMetal partsChoose for corrosion, strength and machinability.

Values here are typical only; always confirm against the manufacturer's data for your application. Oxygen, hydrogen, aerospace, food-contact, pharmaceutical and potable-water uses require technical review and the correct certification documents.

How a special request works

  1. Describe what the part does and where it sits in the machine.
  2. Send a drawing, sample or detailed photos with measurements, marking the critical dimensions.
  3. State the medium, temperature, pressure, speed and loads.
  4. Our team reviews feasibility, material options and quantity.
  5. You receive a quote, and any questions about fit or function are raised before production.

Use the upload a drawing page to send files. For wider engineering input, see seal selection and application engineering and equipment refurbishment.

Information to send with your enquiry

The more of the following you can supply, the faster the part can be identified and quoted.

  • Drawing, sample or detailed photographs
  • Critical dimensions and tolerances
  • Material preference or reason a material has failed
  • Medium, temperature, pressure, speed and load
  • Machine make and model
  • Quantity, one-off or repeat
  • Any approvals or documents required

Genuine and compatible replacements

Customers can enquire about genuine or compatible replacement parts for equipment from manufacturers such as Burgmann, John Crane, Chesterton, Grundfos, KSB, Flygt, Lowara, Goulds, Sulzer, Flowserve, Klinger, Flexitallic, Trelleborg and others. A genuine part is supplied by or made to the original equipment manufacturer's specification and part number. A compatible part is made to fit the same dimensions and duty, usually by another manufacturer, and may differ in material or finish. For special parts there is often no genuine part number left to quote. A compatible part is made to match the sample or drawing, with materials reviewed against the duty. Where the original manufacturer's part is still available, you can enquire about it as well. State clearly in your enquiry which you want, and say whether a part number or sample is available.

How to buy

Globseals supports three ways to buy, and the right one depends on how well the part is defined.

  • Buy online where a product listing shows a confirmed price. Products are being added to the shop progressively, so not every item in this category is listed yet.
  • Request a quote for custom, bulk or unpriced items. One-off and repeat engineered parts are quoted after review. Use the quote request page.
  • Technical review when identification is unresolved. Almost all special part requests need technical review before a quote can be confirmed. Start with Find My Seal or upload a drawing.

You can also phone 011 079 6033 or WhatsApp 079 508 0989, or email info@globseals.com. See delivery and collection for how orders are handled; courier costs are quoted per order.

How ordering works

  1. 1

    Identify

Gather part number, dimensions or a photo of the part.

  2. 2

    Send

Submit it through the quote form, WhatsApp or email.

  3. 3

    Review

Our team checks the details and asks about any gaps.

  4. 4

    Order

Confirm the quote or buy online where a price is listed.

Frequently asked questions

Can you copy a part from a sample?

Often, subject to review. Send the sample or detailed photos with measurements.

What if I only have a damaged part?

It can still help. Send what you have, along with the machine details.

Do you have minimum quantities?

This depends on the part and process and is confirmed when you enquire.

How long will it take?

Turnaround depends on the part and is confirmed per enquiry.

Can you supply certification documents?

Request them at enquiry; availability depends on the material and is confirmed per order.
